Alexander "Sandy" Nesbitt is a native of Newport, R.I., where he maintains his storefront studio and gallery, Blink Gallery. He is a graduate of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. With his childhood split across the Atlantic his taste for travel got an early start as well as his eye for local cultures and all things exotic.

Egypt fills the early years of his professional archive from several summers spent shooting for the Akenaten Temple Project at the ancient city site of Mendes and in the carved rock tomb of Pareneffer in the Valley of the Nobles. Sandy has amassed a widely published, dramatic body of images from the Middle East, southern Africa, the Caribbean, Italy, and Mexico. He's also produced one of the most complete collections of Newport. Recently has shot a Leatherback sea turtle project in Trinidad for Earthwatch Institute and completed a remote, solo excursion among the Himba people in northern Namibia.

In 2004, Sandy won the coveted UK Based Traveler Photographer of the Year award in the "Spirit Of Adventure" category. His Egyptian desert scene was selected for the cover of the April 2005 National Geographic Adventure Magazine and his dramatic shot of a kite boarder in Nantucket featured as a double spread in the July 2005 issue of Outside Magazine. Recently has has shot a kiteboarding adventure in Brazil and landed a kiteboarding image from Cape Verde as a double spread in National Geographic Adventure.

His dedication to documentary photography is at the core of his vision. A sense of the tangible truth in his shots gives his work an unmistakable authenticity. Despite his fondness for the international and the exotic, Sandy has always come back to shoot his beloved homeport, showcasing the area he knows so well as if arriving for the first time. This insider-outsider view is the essence of his unique images.
